Jekyll Island Dune

This photo was taken last Saturday on Jekyll Island, Georgia. After shooting the sunrise for about 30 minutes, I turned around and took some shots of the dunes and clouds in the western sky. This is a 5-frame series merged together with Photomatix Pro. It had an odd pink color cast to it so I used Nik Silver Efex to do a black and white conversion, and I think it helped this shot alot.

  1. Nice image Steve. Good choices on HDR and B&W conversion. This shot has a great feel that is at the same time peaceful and, thanks to the great sky, mysterious.

  2. I like this shot. Simple lines and subject. I wonder what would happen if you had several hours to dodge some of the tips of grass? Kind of give them some highlights.

This would print well on Epson Velvet Fine Art paper.

  3. Great choice on going to black and white! I am imagining a lot of in your face contrast in the color version.

    Well done!

  4. Really nice, simple scene. You did right by making it a black and white.
