Elissa Day Sail #2

From the Elissa day sail on Monday -- beautiful day, but no clouds. I resisted adding some clouds in post. Didn't even add the gull who hung there in midair -- almost posing for us. Lots of gulls, pelicans, and dolphins were along for the ride this year. Nikon D200 at 56mm, 1/1000 sec at f/8, which was just enough to get both the bird and ship in focus.

  1. I like the shot, but I'm at odds with framing...I think. It's almost misdirection with the boat going viewer's right and the sails going viewer's left. You are tighter on the right, where the boat is headed out of the shot. The sails are framed properly to my eye, especially having to leave room for the gull. So, I guess I'm lost as to placement of the boat in the shot. Did you go through any questions to yourself when you framed it up? Do you see where I'm coming from?

  2. I did wrestle with the cropping. While the gull was interesting it made cropping more difficult. I did crop a little must mostly from the top and from the left (maybe 10%). The boat is almost dead on too. Wish it would have been in more of a dynamic angle.
