Laughing Gull

Laughing Gull photographed February 27 in Galveston. I'm not sure if this was a yawn or a squawk because of the irritating photographer nearby. As I recall, it was pretty loud so probably a squawk. And when there are 20-30 of these gulls around --- it does get loud. Nikon D200, 200mm, 1/3200 sec at f/2.8.

  1. Nice control of depth of field and capturing the moment. While the eye is visible, I would have preferred it not being in shadow.

  2. Great! I love that you can see the tongue so well, even the groove down the middle! And with the slight angle the shape of the beak is so well displayed. The eye does not seem dark to me but maybe a little levels adjustment or dodging would bring it out a little more. F2.8 was enough to get good depth of field on the gull and a wonderful, plain background --- no distractions at all.

  3. Nice interesting shot Steve. It's not easy to come up with a different kind of a Gull shot.
