Canyonlands in Sepia

Another photo from Canyonlands National Park near Moab, Utah -- five frame HDR, converted to sepia with Nik Silver Efex Pro, some high-pass sharpening on the canyon edge on the left, and a couple of dodge and burn layers to add some depth.

  1. You did it! We now have the photo with our critique! Sorry, I got carried away. It really does help me formulate my thoughts better.

I have shot from this location. Canyonlands National Park, Island in the Sky (this part of the park is one of three in the system)is one of my favorite locales to shoot.

It appears you shot closer to midday so the light was fairly harsh, mitigated some by the big puffy clouds. Choosing sepia and HDR was a wise choice here.

While some may not like the flatter feel to the light in the photo, I use this picture to put me back in time to July 2004. That's when I visited. I was fortunate to get at least one day with huge storm-filled clouds traversing that harsh landscape.

You captured the hot dry feel of that awe inspiring landscape very well.
