Old Red

I got to work early on Tuesday to shoot a group photo at Old Red on the campus of The University of Texas Medical Branch in Galveston. I was so early no one was there yet, so while I waited for people to arrive, I took a couple of shots before the sun rose over the hospital, off camera right. This plaza is filled with mid-day light, so working here is a challenge -- either with portraits or architectural shots. You can see the top left roofline just starting to get hit with a little sunlight even at 7:15 am. Three handheld frames merged together with Nik HDR Efex Pro, 18mm at f/6.3.

  1. I like this one Steve, so no tripod for this one?

  2. No, didn't have a tripod with me. So in those situations I put the camera in high frame rate mode and click off 3 frames in sequence holding it as steady as possible. Software does a pretty good job aligning any slight mis-registrations.
