I used two SB800s - one with an umbrella from the top right and another with a softbox about flower level pointed slightly downward from the left, so that accounts for the slight underlighting. I used my 24-85 macro lens because I wanted a little more depth of field than I would have gotten with extension tubes. I also used a very slight layer with Redfield Plugins Fractalius filter applied, which probably accentuated the petal edges and overall glow.Steve Schuenkehttps://www.blogger.com/profile/00581777508728593214noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-7182532475948836386.post-24335752713221550022009-02-13T10:15:00.000-08:002009-02-13T10:15:00.000-08:00I think you under-lit the overall exposure (my est...I think you under-lit the overall exposure (my estimate is about .5 EV to 1.5 EV), which is what makes the photograph. It gives it the softness that makes you think rose pedals. The under lighting also helps create the soft shadows, which I really like. This is a great example of making your lighting fit your subject. Job well done, my man!Larry J. I'm with Cindi on the edges and how they just glow with the light.

It's almost like you created a landscape of a flower. What an awesome shot!

DHaassAnonymousnoreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-7182532475948836386.post-35458911898255188692009-02-13T06:16:00.000-08:002009-02-13T06:16:00.000-08:00Gorgeous! The way the edge of each petal catches the light and forms waves and ripples, WOW. Did you use an extension tube for this one?

CindiAnonymousnoreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-7182532475948836386.post-62037857909503328762009-02-13T05:24:00.000-08:002009-02-13T05:24:00.000-08:00Really beautiful shot Steve! One speedlight on each...Really beautiful shot Steve!

One speedlight on each side (two total) or two on each side (four total)? I assume the former but thought I should seek confirmation.

It is amazing to me that you were able to get such a look of softness using flashes! Did you use something to diffuse the light?

Well done!
BarryBarry Armerhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/18315460669795988898noreply@blogger.com
